For the past 60 years, philanthropic endeavors have been a staple in The Starr Group’s company culture. From penny wars, silent auctions, $3 jean days, fitness fundraisers, and more, the employees of The Starr Group continually find new and creative ways to give back to organizations in their community.
“Philanthropy is a major pillar of who we are as a company,” said Nick Starr, Commercial Insurance Architect and Director of Agency Advancement. “For many years we’ve supported the Special Olympics by participating in their polar plunge, Toys for Tots, and have been honored to grant several Make-A-Wish requests. In 2019, President, Paul Neuberger and Co-Owner, Mary Starr, raised a massive $1.5 million for the American Heart Association. Also in 2019, I ran for Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year, raising $65k in 10 weeks.”
Their community-minded drive lead to the creation of The Community Starrs Program in 2018. For every combined home and auto policy The Starr Group writes, new clients have the ability to select an approved Community Starr nonprofit of their choice to receive a $75 donation. Additionally, The Starr Group also makes a percentage donation based on commercial and employee benefit premiums in the same manner.
The Starr Group has also held drives for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, one of the nonprofits on their Community Starrs list, collecting personal care items and other much needed supplies for their neighbors experiencing homelessness. In 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to give back became even greater.
Since 1893, The Milwaukee Rescue Mission has worked with the hungry and hurting of Milwaukee, helping them restore their lives and their hope. In 2019, The Milwaukee Rescue Mission served 304,657 meals, distributed 72,499 pieces of clothing, and provided 98,558 nights of shelter to those in need.
In 2021, The Starr Group hopes to continue their tradition of collecting hygiene items for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission in addition to being able to give their time and talents volunteering at the organization.
As a winner of the 2020 #SECURAGivesBack campaign, The Milwaukee Rescue Mission was awarded $2,500 on behalf of The Starr Group and SECURA which will go directly towards their efforts to serve the homeless of Milwaukee.
