For Kimberly Quintela, Office Manager at Maverick Insurance Group, her involvement with Down Syndrome of Louisville goes beyond just volunteerism.
“In 2008, my son, Cole, was born with down syndrome and at the time of his birth, the hospital immediately put me in contact with Down Syndrome of Louisville and they came running to my rescue,” recalled Kimberly.
For the past 13 years, Kimberly and her family have been heavily involved with Down Syndrome of Louisville, calling it “life-changing for families like ours.” When Kimberly began her employment with Maverick Insurance, that advocacy only grew stronger.
“In 2019, Maverick Insurance was a sponsor for the Down Syndrome of Louisville Walk and a handful of agency staff turned out to participate in the event. It was so heart-warming to have your work mates show up for you in this way. We were touched!” said Kimberly.
With COVID-19 forcing Down Syndrome of Louisville to cancel their annual walk in 2020 (instead hosting a drive-through scavenger hunt), Kimberly and Maverick Insurance are hopeful that this new tradition can continue in 2021.
“I always say that having a child with Down Syndrome was not the end of the world,” said Kimberly. “It was just the beginning of a new journey. It was a journey I had never planned, but I sure do love my tour guide!”
As a winner of the 2020 #SECURAGivesBack campaign, Down Syndrome of Louisville was awarded $2,500 on behalf of Maverick Insurance and SECURA which will go directly towards their mission of providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals with down syndrome, thus enabling each individual to reach their full potential.
